The park has some of the most important populations of western lowland gorillas and forest elephants in the world. A tree says: A kernel is hidden in me, a spark, a thought, I am life from eternal life. There was a common underlying theme of interest in conserving natural forests, biodiversity, and addressing environmental concerns (such as erosion) among the projects interviewed. Given that over half of the area has been cleared or heavily modified, the potential for increasing carbon sequestration via restoration is massive ( Ajani 2008 ).

Forest carbon in lowland Papua New Guinea: local variation and the importance of small trees. Nitrogen is needed to manufacture proteins, enzymes, nucleotides, vitamins, and other compounds. Human Natures, Genes, Culture and the Human Prospect. Gause demonstrated that this concept was accurate in practice. Pelicans and other seabirds live in the canopies of the mangrove swamps. Fortunately, there has been an emphasis on protection throughout many of these regions over the past decade, such as the establishment of new reserves in South Australia and northern New South Wales, World Heritage Listing in the wet tropics, the increasing popularity of private agreements between landholders and state governments for the gazetting of privately owned native vegetation remnants, private acquisition of large tracts of land by non-governmental organizations, replanting schemes funded via Commonwealth initiatives ( Ford 2011 ), and biodiversity corridor plans for many areas on the southern, eastern and northern coasts of the country.

An intriguing feature of the rain forests are the extensive networks of relationship that have developed, sometimes in- volving a dozen or more species. Forest degradation may result in lower future biomass accumulation in recovering forests owing to a shift in species composition (i.e., ecosystem state; see Criterion 2) and tree size class structure, loss of highly functional species (Díaz and Cabido 2001, Russell et al. 2010), and/or a reduction at the landscape scale of mature forests (for example, Kirby and Potvin 2007, Lewis et al. 2009).

This habitat will not remain unchanged for long because Nimba is a mountain of iron ore and other minerals. The largest butterfly in the world is also found in the rain forest. What they say is the most comprehensive assessment yet of the risk of tropical forest dieback caused by climate change, the scientists say their results have important implications for the future evolution of rainforests, including the role they play in the global climate system and carbon cycle.
